It started off with a bad decision to give Babel a red card. I might sound like a sore loser but anyone who watched this game would without a doubt know a red card would be too harsh a decision. Luisao tackled Torres from the back and only got a yellow while Babel who argued with Luisao and later push him away lightly on the face got a red. To me, at most babel deserved a yellow. Not a red.
Torres' goal on the 37th minute was denied when the linesman raised the flag for an offside; something I don't believe even after watching the replay. It wasn't offside for me and the goal should have stood. Torres was getting frustrated and who could blame him when you have a referee who appears to be one-sided refereeing the match. He however, missed a great chance from Kuyt's pass and had only Benfica's Cesar to beat, putting it wide away from the goal. Truly, watching that miss was heartbreaking. Somehow, fouls by Benfica were not spotted by fouls by Liverpool were always spotted.
Liverpool gave away 2 penalties and I've got to say as much as I hate to that they just got unlucky. After watching 60 minutes of play, I got really frustrated and so was Daniel Agger. Good tackles by Liverpool was given a foul and poor tackle by Benfica; nothing was done. Poor refereeing. I felt Benfica was always trying to fall and get a free kick or a penalty. Come on, it's not acting, it's football. It's the first leg of the europa league. Looking at the current score, Liverpool needs at least a 1-0 win to proceed. Hopefully, things will be better when they play at home.
